Lee is a professionally schooled Decorative Surface Artist with over 20 years experience in Art and Design. Prior to opening Creative Surfaces & Designs in 1992, Lee spent 12 years as an Interior Designer utilizing her degree from The New York School of Interior Design. She uses both her extensive training and her decorator’s eye in the creation, design and placement of her decorative painting.

Lee has both a B.A. in Art History and a B.S. in Studio Arts, as well as her degree in Interior Design. While living and working in NYC after college, and after having obtained her additional degree in Interior Design, she studied "for the love of creating something beautiful" with the esteemed and internationally known authority on the Art of the Painted Finish, the late Isabel O’Neil.

"We could work upwards to 16 weeks executing one finish on a small piece of furniture!" Lee says. "From grinding our own pigments for paint and glazes, to development of the technique, using the correct tools, and applying the required number of sealing coats. I learned from a designated Master, traditional methods and skills of a Craft that can contribute to the Harmony and Beauty of our surroundings."

Inspired by O’Neil - and unsuccessfully locating anyone to execute the many finishes she wanted to incorporate into her interior design commissions - Lee began a quest both here in the U.S. and Overseas, to gain knowledge through an extensive education in as many courses in The Decorative Painted Finish as she could. It didn’t take long to realize wielding a brush or trowel was preferable to her than ordering fabrics and furniture. She continues learning new techniques, studying old methods and working with the ever-expanding menu of new tools and materials by attending classes and long experimentation in her studio developing new finishes.
